Port of Broome maintenance assistant Garry Bronca received a Certificate of Merit after being entered into the WorkSafe – Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards.
Garry embraced his position as a Health, Safety and Environment Committee representative and brought forward numerous safety improvement suggestions.
Some of Garry’s workplace initiatives are:
- Designing a skid mounted portable fire system after a fire drill identified deficiencies and assisted in training employees in using the system.
- Constructed a dust suppression machine that consists of a pump, IBC and spray boom that can be transported by forklift to address port dust issues.
- Produced a traffic management plan for the maintenance yard to improve employee safety.
