It was exciting for Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA) staff to witness the berthing of the vessel Contship Yen on Sunday October 19 at the Port of Wyndham.
This is the first cotton lint export processed at the Kununurra cotton gin. Sixty 40 foot containers were loaded for export, each weighing approx. 28 tonne.
Managers of the port Cambridge Gulf Ltd (CGL) provided the stevedoring, and KPA supplied the reach stacker and the container spreader.
A new container management software, from Wave Systems, was introduced with a representative on-site to provide training and supporting the CGL team.
An iron ore bulk carrier was also loaded by CGL for Kimberley Metals Group – a busy time at the port.
Another container vessel is due in Wyndham in early November to do an exchange of empty containers for ones full of cotton.
